Record number of counterfeiting products intercepted and destroyed by IMPI in 2019

The Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) has announced that it has ordered the destruction of a record 5,087,662 counterfeiting products during the year 2019. These destructions were carried out by IMPI in collaboration with the National Corporate Counsels Association, the American Chamber of Commerce in Mexico and the Mexican Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property.

With these high numbers in mind, and following a study it carried out in which 85% of consumers confessed to having bought or acquired counterfeiting products at least once, IMPI has announced the launch of an initiative aiming to unite the efforts of various stakeholders – chambers of commerce, associations, right holders – in the fight against piracy. Amongst the different bodies who have already agreed to participate to the initiative can be found the following: the CONCAMIN (association of Mexican Indsutrial Chambers), the National Pharmaceutical Association, the Authors and Composers Society of Mexico, the Business Software Alliance Mexico and SKY.
